"Where did you get your company name?" We are asked this question at least once at every market and show we attend. It isn't a typical "honey farm" name, and many of our customers are curious why we chose this for our business.
Jon was born and raised in East Texas--and he grew up back in the days when kids actually went outside to play (oh, the horror!!). Typical country boy....fishing in the pond, shooting bb guns, and riding his motorcycle all over the pastures and family land in the Piney Woods. His favorite person when he was growing up was his Grandpa "Deat".
Deat was an honest, hardworking man who always had time for his grandson and believed that every day should be fun. He had a quiet, simple life and was perfectly content with his small home and his old pickup. It didn't take much to make him happy....and happy he was.
To get to Deat's place, you had to head out of town and turn off the paved road. Oh, I believe that all the best places are found once you turn onto a dirt road somewhere. When you pulled up into his driveway (a dirt drive, of course), he had a pipe entryway. Hanging down from that pipe was a sign with three simple words....Bull Nettle Ridge.
So, that is how we got our name. A young boy, who greatly admired his grandpa, grew into a man who desires that same simple existence. Bull Nettle Ridge--only three words, but those three words mean so much to this little family business.
